Desmond - Our School Dog
Desmond is a one year old Cavapoochon who lives with Miss Corrigan and comes to school everyday. He has successfully completed an intensive assessment with the Dog Mentor company.
Desmond is always accompanied by a human adult and is always on his lead when walking around school. The children are able to stoke and interact with him but do not have to if they do not wish to. We feel that learning how to respond to a dog is a life skill and that there are many benefits that working with a dog can provide our children and whole school community.
If you do not wish for your child to have any contact with Desmond please let the school know. If your child works with Desmond on a one to one/ small group basis you will be informed beforehand. If you have any worries, concerns or questions - Miss Corrigan is more then happy to talk with you.
By working alongside Desmond, the children will develop many skills such as developing and improving their communication skills, self-control and confidence, focus, concentration, stress coping strategies and many more.
If you would like to learn more about Desmond, please take a look at our school newsletters as here he writes his own diary.
Desmond loves seeing you all every morning and every afternoon when he is on gate duty.
